Maggie and Yancey have been married for 4 years, but they have known each other much longer. They met their freshman year of college in South Carolina and ran in the same circles by their sophomore year. As fate would have it, Maggie was randomly assigned a dorm room directly under Yancey’s room.
“At the time, I remember being annoyed living directly under two, loud college boys. Now I’m forever grateful. I’d often be studying or sleeping and would hear loud thuds or blaring music… I’d walk up to their room and politely ask them to be quiet. Yancey says I was not polite and I did not ask, they were told 🙂 You can imagine I had little success trying to get them to be quiet. One day, they invited me in to “hang out” and just like that we started spending more time together and began dating shortly after,” Maggie says.
Yancey and Maggie dated through college, and after graduation, Maggie was offered a job in New York while Yancey was offered a more permanent position in Dallas. “It had been a lifelong dream of mine to live in New York City. I remember Yancey telling me if I did not go to New York, I would forever regret it. He said he knew he wanted to marry me and wanted me to have no regrets in life.” Yancey and Maggie spent another two years dating long-distance with Yancey in Dallas and Maggie in New York. After living apart for so long, Maggie decided to join Yancey in Dallas and it was there they were engaged and married.
In April 2022, Maggie and Yancey found out they were pregnant after 1 month of trying to conceive. They were over the moon to be having a little girl. Maggie has Type I Diabetes which was diagnosed when she was 13 years old, so they knew any pregnancy would be high risk and require close monitoring. However, because she was in such good control on an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor, her OBGYN, MFM, and Endocrinologist did not expect any complications. Unfortunately, and unexpectedly, on December 2, 2022, Maggie and Yancey found out their little girl, Blaire, did not have a heartbeat. At 35 weeks gestation, Maggie delivered her stillborn on December 4, 2022. It was the most devastating loss, and words really can’t describe the immense pain they felt losing their little girl.
Since doctors do not know what caused the stillbirth or how to prevent it in the future, they encouraged Maggie and Yancey to seek the help of a surrogate should they want to have more children. They met with an infertility specialist who agreed surrogacy would be their safest option. He said Yancey and Maggie would be perfect candidates for it, considering fertility is not a challenge as evidenced by their healthy baby girl.
Maggie and Yancey are so grateful surrogacy exists and for the surrogate mothers that make the gift of a family and baby possible. It is an option they are 100% dedicated to. They are moving forward with the egg retrieval as soon as Maggie has healed from the delivery, and they are eagerly awaiting a wonderful surrogate match.
