Hailing from Eastern Washington, I found myself matched with Jackie, my intended mother, who lived over 2,500 miles away in New York. Despite the distance, my husband and I embraced the journey wholeheartedly, creating lasting memories and seizing the opportunity to reconnect with dear friends and family. From medical screenings to watching a dream hockey game, every moment became a cherished part of our surrogacy adventure.
Beyond the birth of my “belly buddy,” some of my favorite memories stem from the genuine connections formed during the journey. Meeting Jackie for the first time, spending quality time with her and her mom before the birth, and the beautiful fall experience in the Pacific Northwest created an overflow of joy in my life. The love and support from both our families made me realize the incredible bond forged in such a short time.
Reflecting on my journey, I share advice for those considering surrogacy. Research, self-care, and communication with your coordinator are paramount. I emphasize the transformative power of acupuncture, massages, and chiropractic care, as well as the importance of leaning on your coordinator for support.
The financial aspect of surrogacy has opened doors for memorable experiences, including a trip to Mexico with friends. We’ve also wisely set aside some compensation as a nest egg, keeping an eye out for potential investment opportunities. As a real estate agent and mortgage loan officer, my husband and I are planning for our future.
Will I embark on another journey? Absolutely! Despite the sacrifices and challenges, the joy and fulfillment I’ve experienced make another surrogacy journey an unequivocal “yes.” While I initially considered an early summer match, I’ve decided to wait until the fall of 2024 to savor precious moments with my husband and son.
My surrogacy journey has been nothing short of magical, filled with love, support, and profound connections. Watching Jackie deliver her daughter was a highlight, illustrating the transformative impact of surrogacy on not only the intended parents but their extended families.
