Egg Donor & Surrogate Solutions

Preparing for the Future-Unidentified Cycle with the DSR

As you consider helping a family via egg donation, we are here to guide and support you through the process of screening, legal, medications and the retrieval process and we are also proud to help you start this process with the end in mind…. the child(ren) you are helping create. Egg Donor & Surrogate Solutions is supportive of Intended Parents in this process, egg donors, and the donor conceived child(ren) so our company policies reflect the interests of everyone.

Why Does Egg Donor Solutions use the word “Unidentified?”
Many agencies, clinics, and egg banks will frequently use the word anonymous when discussing their egg donor program. We will not. Unidentified simply means we will not be releasing anyone’s personal information. With new DNA testing, technical advances, and facial recognition, we cannot guarantee your anonymity and consequently feel we have an obligation to inform you of the opposite. In new research, 78% of donor-conceived children found their donor or donor sibling via DNA testing. We believe that percentage will only
increase as the popularity of these kinds of tests increases.

What is the Donor Sibling Registry (DSR)?
The DSR is a 3rd party program that will allow you to communicate with the intended parents and possibly a donor-conceived child through a username and not your full name. This will allow intended parents and a possible donor-conceived child to have accurate medical information and have contact in the future if all parties agree. With this system, you have full control of your personal identity and how you will or will not handle future contact. You will not be asked to sign up now, but it may be requested in the future (typically
1 year after the donation).

Bottomline: You simply need to be open to signing up for the Donor Sibling Registry when the time comes.

Why does Egg Donor & Surrogate Solutions require openness to the Donor Sibling Registry (DSR)?
As opposed to Intended Parents or a future donor-conceived child reaching out through DNA sites, social media sites, or where you live, we want you to have a safe and secure way to communicate if desired. Therefore, we recommend using the Donor Sibling Registry. Without the DSR being written into the direct legal agreements, future contact could be stressful or chaotic.

What you need to know about being a donor:
Whether you choose to donate with Egg Donor & Surrogate Solutions or another agency, you need to consider what this means for you and your future. Let us give you some data to assist in processing this information.
• 86.5% of donor-conceived people surveyed believe they have a right to non-identifying information regarding their donor.
• 80% believe they have been [emotionally/psychologically] harmed by not knowing their donor’s full medical history after the egg donation.
• 89% of donor-conceived people feel they have a right to their donor’s identity and on-going health history.
• 70% of donor-conceived people believe they have been [emotionally/psychologically] harmed, by not having access to their donor’s identity.

By providing access to the DSR we hope to support donor-conceived people while protecting and educating donors!

The research goes on to suggest that future children want access to their donor in many circumstances. What level of access they want can vary from a full relationship to simply answering some medical or curiosity questions, but we want you to be prepared for all of them and have a safe and appropriate method of communication if needed.
