Derek and Mylene have been married 5 years and are proud parents to sweet Harper, who is now 3 years
old.
During her pregnancy with Harper, Mylene experienced severe medical complications which required 2
surgeries to remove blood clots and then bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. Despite not having
clear answers, she underwent a scheduled C-section which went well and gave birth to a healthy baby.
However, a week later, she was readmitted to the hospital with abdominal pain that persisted even after
discharge. She sought medical help from various specialists but despite various abdominal/pelvic
laparoscopies and many procedures she still had no firm answers. 3 years later she was finally diagnosed
with severe May Thurner and pelvic congestion syndrome, which required multiple surgeries. Despite
these treatments, her pain worsened, and she was advised to see a specialized OB who recommended a
total hysterectomy after having tried everything else. She underwent IVF to freeze embryos before the
surgery and finally had the full hysterectomy, which revealed the severity of her condition. She was
diagnosed with Stage 3 Endometriosis with many adhesions to other organs. She is now hopeful to use
surrogacy to give her daughter a sibling.
Derek is a dentist and Mylene is a stay-at-home mom, but used to teach golf. They enjoy an active lifestyle
which includes: hiking, skiing, golf, cooking, volleyball, reading, movies, gardening, art, and in general, just
spending outdoor time with their daughter Harper and family dog, Jackie.
Although they have been through a lot as a family, they truly believe that these hardships have made
them stronger and more united, able to take on any challenges that may come their way. They make a
continuous effort to show love to one another, doing their best to be present and supportive of one
another. They are very involved in Harper’s life. They try to fill her days with love and adventure, including
trips to the zoo, museums, and play dates. Despite the last few years of hardships, they refuse to stop laughing
and having fun. They are always goofing around and trying their best to not take life too seriously.
They are grateful for our future surrogate and want her to know what a blessing she is to them. They
want her to know that her gift of time in helping them has given them hope. The hope of growing their family
and hope of giving their daughter a sibling. They have 1 tested embryo and are praying daily for the
success of this embryo. They are utilizing one of the top doctors at one of the top fertility clinics in the
country, with a 70%+ live birth rate per transfer. They are planning ahead if embryo transfer was
unsuccessful, to proceed with more transfers utilizing an egg donor option or embryo donor.
