Meet Katie & Luke

Hi. We are Katie and Luke, and we are incredibly grateful that you are taking the time to learn a little about us. Pursuing surrogacy has been a meaningful step in our journey toward becoming parents, and we recognize that this path would not be possible without the generosity of an amazing woman who is willing to help a family grow.

As we begin this journey, one of our biggest hopes is to build a genuine connection with our surrogate. We would love to receive updates during the pregnancy and be included in appointments or special moments if she feels comfortable sharing them. At the same time, we deeply respect that she has her own family, responsibilities, and rhythms of daily life. Our priority is always to respect her wishes and privacy while building a trusting relationship together.

In 2022, I (Katie) underwent a hysterectomy due to severe Stage IV endometriosis, after years of debilitating pain that began during my sophomore year of college and was initially dismissed as “bad cramps.” An exploratory laparotomy eventually confirmed extensive disease and significant damage, followed by four additional surgeries over the next four years that brought temporary hope but ultimately led to ongoing cycles of pain. When it became clear that my health was not improving, I made the difficult decision to take a different path—preserving my fertility through two rounds of egg retrieval before moving forward with a hysterectomy. This decision was not made out of defeat, but out of a determination to prioritize my quality of life and reclaim my future from chronic pain.

We both work full time and live just north of Atlanta. Luke works in insurance acquisitions, helping integrate agencies into his company’s system. I work as a marketing coordinator for a wealth management firm and also help manage a private real estate portfolio. After our baby arrives, I plan to step back from some of my professional responsibilities so I can spend more time at home during the early months.

We are fortunate to have both sets of our parents living nearby, and they are excited to support us with childcare. Having that close family support gives us so much reassurance as we prepare for parenthood.

In our free time, we love spending time outdoors. Luke enjoys golfing, hiking, and cheering on UGA football and the New Jersey Devils. I have loved horseback riding since high school and competed on Auburn University’s collegiate riding team. These days I spend a lot of free time enjoying Harry Potter, Taylor Swift (lifelong, OG Swiftie, here!) and my husband enjoys reggae and country (it’s a unique combo!).  We also enjoy traveling, skiing out West, trying new restaurants, and spending time with our mini Labradoodle, Posie Mae.

Family is at the center of our lives. We are so excited for the chance to welcome a child and build a future filled with love, support, and meaningful traditions.

Called to Carry is a 14-day devotional for women of faith walking through the sacred, complex, and often hidden journey of surrogacy. Get your free copy today.
