Meet Kristen & Kyle đź’•

Hi! We’re the Poers, Kristen, Kyle, and Hailey. If you’re reading this you may be interested in helping us add to our little family.  We wanted to give you some background and tell you a bit about ourselves, so you can be sure we’re a good match for you, and you for us.

We met over 20 years ago here in Dallas, TX. Our circles of friends became intertwined early on in high school, Kristen at Hockaday and Kyle at Jesuit.  We stayed friends over the years, but no more than that, occasionally bumping into each other around the holidays and over summer through college.  Later on over a long Labor Day weekend at a friend’s ranch, something changed.  Kyle asked Kristen if she would be interested in going on a date back in Dallas, she said she would and cheesy enough, the rest was history.  We dated for about three years after that, got engaged in 2017, and married in 2018.  From the onset we decided we would take some time and enjoy married life together.  We did just that.

We travelled the world, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, many trips to Hawaii and the Caribbean.  We lived in a fun, cool part of Dallas with our dog Disco, really just enjoying each other and growing together. In 2020 we found a beautiful home that is conveniently located right down the street from both of our parents as well as Kyle’s sister and her family. Everyone always says “it takes a village,” and we wanted to make sure our village was close! We didn’t know then how important that would turn out to be.  In the summer of 2022 we got the incredible news that we were pregnant with our daughter.  After a smooth pregnancy but nearly emergency delivery, Hailey was born just a few weeks early, a tiny but mighty 4 lbs. 15 oz. perfect little girl.  Being so small she just needed all the attention in the world, and if not for the support of our families and our friends we have no idea how we would have made it through!

Of course, we had always said if we had one child we wanted to have at least two as we each have siblings and ideally wanted multiple kids in order to share that experience. Fast forward about a year and we were ready to start trying again.  After a few attempts with no success, Kristen got the exciting positive pregnancy test. Sadly, at around eight weeks we got the unfortunate news that she had suffered a miscarriage and after a few follow up appointments our doctor recommended having a D&C. During the procedure our doctor faced some complications and had to perform a lifesaving emergency hysterectomy. We were heartbroken. Devastated. Unable to comprehend how and why this had happened to us. Together we cried and prayed, searching for answers, and trying to hold on to some hope.

But there was a silver lining.  Although Kristen can’t carry another child, the doctors were able to save her ovaries, and therefore her ability to make eggs.  Still recovering in the hospital we met with a therapist who has dealt with this type of trauma.  She asked what we thought our next steps were.  Though we were both lost and had no idea what the next step should be or how we get from A to B, we both knew if there was a chance to try again, we would take it. Through the power of God, science, IVF, and the gracious and selfless act of surrogacy, we may yet be able to fulfill our family’s dream.

So, in advance, if you are considering being a carrier for us, and even just for considering being a carrier for any family that needs you: thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
