Tips for a Healthy Egg Donation Cycle in 2023

Are you new to our program and hoping to do your first egg donation cycle in 2023? Or perhaps you’re a veteran donor ready to help create another wonderful family this year. Either way, our team is grateful for you and here to support you on your journey. Below are a few tips to help you have a healthy and successful cycle in 2023.

  1. Exercise regularly
    This one should come as no surprise. Regular exercise is great for your overall health and especially important for egg donors, who must maintain a body mass index (BMI) of 28 or less to be eligible to donate. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that healthy adults get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week.
  2. Stay hydrated
    Drinking plenty of water has numerous health benefits, including clearer skin, increased energy levels and flushing waste from the body. During an egg donation cycle, staying hydrated can help minimize side effects that some women experience from the medication, such as headaches and cramping. Aim to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day.
  3. Eat a well-balanced diet A healthy and well-balanced diet is important for everyone. For egg donors, a diet rich in lean meats, fruits, vegetables and whole grains can provide the extra nutrients your body needs during a cycle. The CDC recommends that adults consume at least one and a half to two cups of fruits per day and two to three cups of vegetables per day.
  1. Practice safe sex
    Egg donors are required to be free of any sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and are tested prior to receiving medical clearance to start a donation cycle. If you are sexually active, ensure that you are taking the proper precautions to avoid contracting an STI. Once you start an egg donation cycle, you will be required to abstain from sexual intercourse until after the retrieval.   2. Have a support system
    Sharing with family and friends your decision to become an egg donor is a personal one. While it’s certainly not necessary to tell everyone, having a few close, trusted friends and family members who will support and encourage you during your journey is important. When it comes time for the retrieval, you will need to bring a support person with you to drive you home after the procedure and stay with you for a day or two. If you are traveling for the retrieval, there’s the added bonus of a getaway with your significant other, your mom, your sister or one of your girlfriends!
